AmeriCorps Volunteer
The VCMA is proud to participate in the Porter County AmeriCorps Consortium. Our AmeriCorps volunteer, Matthew Byerly, works closely with VCMA members, social agencies, and other churches in the community on a number of volunteer and community initiatives, including ShareFest, the Homelessness Project, and the Elementary Mentoring Project.

A graduate of the University of Indianapolis, Mr. Byerly holds Bachelors degrees in Music and Communications. In addition to his AmeriCorps volunteering, Matthew is currently pursuing an additional degree in Education and also works as a freelance journalist.
Matthew has a deep commitment to both faith and community service. He recently completed a term as a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church, and says faith guides many aspects of his life. He is also active in many community groups. Matthew sits on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Valparaiso, volunteers in the community with Special Olympics and stays in touch with the Boy Scouts, as he is himself an Eagle Scout.
In his free time (when he leaves some for himself), he enjoys music, theatre, good literature, dabbles in genealogy, enjoys watching classic movies, and is a bit of a trivia buff.
Interested in participating in one of our volunteer initiatives? Don’t hestitate to contact Matthew, and he’ll be sure to get back to you with the proper information.
